Why an engagement session is important

Kristina and Kamen! These two were such a joy to work with. Since this was their first time having professional photos taken together, my focus was on creating a space where they could feel completely comfortable and just be themselves. We chose a location that gave us room to wander and explore, and somehow timed it perfectly because the rain held off until the moment we wrapped. Truly felt like the universe was on our side that day.

Engagement sessions are such a valuable part of the process. It’s a chance to ease into being in front of the camera before your wedding day. Even though your wedding isn’t meant to feel performative, it can be a little strange having someone (me) documenting everything. My goal is always for you to feel present, relaxed, and fully immersed in your day with your people. As your photographer, I’m just there to quietly capture it all as it unfolds.

They’re also a great opportunity for us to build a sense of trust before the wedding day. You get a feel for how I guide and direct, and how we work together, so nothing feels unfamiliar when the day comes. I’ll never leave you wondering what to do with your hands, offering gentle direction when needed, while also leaving space for real moments to happen naturally.

Beyond that, engagement sessions help you understand your dynamic as a couple on camera. Whether you’re playful, quiet, or somewhere in between, it gives you a chance to lean into what feels most like you, so your wedding photos reflect that same energy. It also takes some of the pressure off your wedding timeline, knowing you already have beautiful, intentional images of the two of you without having to fit everything into one day.

And maybe most importantly, it captures this season of your relationship. That in-between space before the wedding is where everything feels full of anticipation and excitement. It’s a different kind of story, and one that deserves to be documented just as much.

If you’re on the fence about booking an engagement session, this is your sign. It’s not about perfect photos; it’s about creating space to slow down, connect, and get comfortable being yourselves in front of the camera. And I’ll be right there with you, making it feel easy every step of the way.
